Living Christ’s Comfort Dog Ministry is an affiliate of Lutheran Church Charity’s K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry. JoJo, our own comfort dog, is specially trained to the level of a service dog to bring comfort to the sad, lonely, and hurting people she meets. JoJo’s presence brings comfort, but also allows her handlers to begin to have a compassionate relationship with the people they meet.

JoJo accompanies her handlers to schools, nursing homes, community events, homes of shut-ins, and the local Paneras. She also has gone on disaster relief trips to Joplin, MO, Washington Illinois, and Rochelle Illinois after the tornados and Newtown, CT after the shootings. She is available for visits at any time, for reasons big and small. If you would like her to visit, to serve or just to present more about our ministry, please contact us at the office of Living Christ. JoJo would love to see you.

Our team of nine Dog Handlers of the “LCLC Comfort Dog Ministry” are easily identified by their blue shirts and vests which match those worn by the Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dogs. Our “Dog Handlers” proudly wear them wherever thay take JoJo, on site visits or to LCC sponsored events, identifying themselves as authorized trained Dog Handlers.

At The Dentist

Few experiences in life are more stress-inducing than a visit to the dentist’s office. But one ingenious pediatric clinic knows someone who’s capable of making otherwise anxious young patients actually enjoy coming in.  As a trained comfort dog, JoJo is skilled at putting people at ease. When kids come in for checkups, especially those who are very nervous or have special needs, this sweet pup is there to offer her loving presence — which is often just the right medicine.

K-9 Comfort Dogs Serve the Community of Newtown Connecticut

JoJo along with 9 other K-9 Comfort Dogs traveled to Newtown Connecticut on New Years Day 2013 to welcome students and staff for the opening day of school at Newtown High School and Sandy Hook Elementary School. Comfort Dogs have been at the schools every day since and will be there as long as needed. Since returning home, JoJo has been busy with her regular visits to local schools, nursing homes, and Panera Bread. She has also been visiting other churches to tell the story of her visits with the children, parents, and teachers of Sandy Hook and Newtown.

K-9 Comfort Dogs Participate in The Clinic at Trinity Roselle

Over 320 families representing more than 1000 people in need are served the last Saturday in November at Trinity Lutheran Church in Roselle. This annual event provides medical care, legal advice, food and other support services. There to greet everyone as they came in the door are the K-9 Comfort Dogs.

JoJo Goes to School

When parents and students arrive at St. Peter Lutheran School in Arlington Heights they are often greeted by a special guest. Comfort Dog JoJo comes to visit and share in “JoJo Tales” storytimes for about 100 children (preschool through grade1),  She also works with some kindergarten friends who earn special awards in their class.

JoJo is pictured with some of her new “collectable” JoJo bookmarks.  We have developed 12 different bookmarks, which have her photo, Bible verse, and a different JoJo trivia fact and picture.  Every time our St. Peter students come to visit JoJo for any reason, they will be given a different one of these bookmarks until they have the whole series.  The trivia facts include her birthdate, favorite restaurant, how much she weighs, where she was born, info on the # of her siblings, her home church, her favorite toy, her Facebook address, how much food she eats every day, where she lives, etc.

JoJo attends Fall Fest at Walcamp.

Each year JoJo attends the annual Fall Fest at Walcamp in Kingston Illinois. Lutheran Church Charities hosts a Welcome Booth where people of all ages can meet and share hugs with several comfort dogs visiting throughout the afternoon. JoJo of course is more than happy to accomodate.

K-9 Parish Comfort Dogs Help at “Hands & Feet” Serving Camp

On June 21st and 22nd LCC K-9 Parish Comfort Dogs Butter, JoJo, Tillie, and Star were invited to participate with the “Hands & Feet” Serving Camp at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Palatine. The week long serving camp is for junior high students where they visited and played with disabled children, cleaned food pantries, visited and made crafts with residents at multiple nursing homes, created kits for oversees refugees and soldiers. The K-9 Parish Comfort Dogs accompanied youth to different nursing homes to visit with residents. Joy K. (Camp Director) shared, “As always our kids loved having the dogs along. It really helps the students feel more comfortable being at the nursing home.”
