BOOKS

Prayer and Devotion

The Valley of Vision – A wonderful book of prayers for every occasion.

New Morning Mercies – A daily devotional that lasts one year that is Christ focused.

Treasury of Daily Prayer – Very similar to “For All The Saints” in that it is a daily devotional with daily readings, prayers, and writings. But, this is all in one volume and is meant to last you one year.

For All The Saints: A Prayer Book For and By the Saints – This is a four-volume daily devotional that takes two years to complete. Over the four volumes you’ll cover most of the Bible. Each day has an opening and closing prayer, three Scripture readings, and a writing from different Christian authors. It was written for those wondering, “How do I pray?”

Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God – This wonderful primer on prayer by Timothy Keller is one of our favorites.

The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones – Our favorite children’s Bible that is totally Jesus focused.

The Lutheran Study Bible – A great study bible with notes, maps, prayers, and more (For the Lutherans out there – or anyone who wants solid, Scriptural study.

The Lutheran Bible Companion – A two-volume Bible companion that provides context, history, cultural insights, articles, maps, and more!

ESV Value Thinline Bible – A great Bible (and a great translation) to stick in your backpack to take with you.

Other

Tough Call – A great little book on making decisions from a Christian perspective.

Luther’s Small Catechism – A classic way to get into the basics of the faith. A small book that you’ll never grow out of.

God’s Story // Your Story: Seeing your life in light of God’s story – A book about regaining a vision for the Bible as story. Over twenty short chapters God’s story is told from creation to Christ’s return. Each chapter ends with questions that will help you reflect on your story in light of God’s. Great for personal use or as part of a small group or Bible study!

Growing Up, in, with, and under Jesus – A little book on Christian maturity and growing up in our faith.

Websites

Bible Gateway – a great resource to find verses and read online or on your phone.

The Bible Project – A super cool website that tells the stories of the Bible in a unique, visual way. I love their videos for all ages.

Explore God – This site has great videos to spark discussion of spiritual topics.

THRED – This Youtube channel promotes dialogue among Christians and non-Christians alike. It asks (and helps answer) some of the tough questions of our day.

Apps

Pray as You Go – This app will lead you through a 10 minute time of reflection and prayer. It has drastically changed (for the better) my prayer life.

Bible Gateway – A great app for reading the Bible on the go.

Logos – Our go-to Bible software. Especially great for pastors or church leaders. The number of things you can do with this software is amazing. I use the desktop and tablet/iOS versions extensively.
