At Living Christ we believe we are sent by God into the world to share His love and to reflect His goodness to our community. Below are some of the ways we try to do that.
Food Pantry
We recognize that most of us have been abundantly blessed, and we believe that God has called us to share what we’ve been given. One small way we can reflect Christ’s love is through our food pantry. Our members gather together household items and non-perishable food that we give away to those in need. You can donate towards this by depositing your items in the basket at church.
Mission Trips
Throughout the years the members of Living Christ have traveled near and far to serve in a variety of ways. Members have gone to Ysleta Lutheran Mission in El Paso, Haiti, Africa, and South America. We look forward to wherever God will lead us to go next. One of the blessings of these trips is connecting with other Christians around the world as we celebrate our similarities in Christ and the uniqueness He has given to each of us!

Christmas in November

This is an annual event which started in 1994 where the entire church body of Living Christ comes together to work on gifts for needy children and adults. We need as many people as possible to help us accomplish the following tasks in one evening. MANY coats are purchased with funds provide by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
The coats are matched up with hats, scarves, mittens and gloves donated by members, many being knitted or crocheted by the Prayer Shawl Ministry women.
Personal hygiene items are donated throughout the year and will be sorted and packaged into gift bags for needy families in Wheeling Township. Last year we packed about 80 bags. The gift bags will be decorated by our children.
Cookie baking is a big part of the evening. About 300 cookies are cut out, baked and decorated. They will be given to our shut-in members and residents of The Lutheran Home in Arlington Hts. The cookies look so beautiful when they are laying out to cool, all decorated and ready to be packaged.
The event is held on the second Saturday in November. The evening starts at 5:00 P.M. with a Pot-Luck dinner and then the fun begins. Mark your calendar now so you do not miss this evening. You will have a great time and you will feel good about brightening someone’s Christmas.
Matthew 25:40 “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”
Meals on Wheels
June is our month to deliver “Meals on Wheels.” Volunteers distribute hot and cold meals to home bound people throughout Wheeling, Prospect Heights, and the surrounding communities. Meals are picked up at the Lutheran Home and Services for the Aged in Arlington Heights where they are prepared and packaged for delivery. This is a great opportunity to bring a good meal, a smile, and perhaps a light conversation to people who might not have family in the area.
Prayer Shawl Ministry

(Our prayer shawl group on the Sunday we blessed the work of their hands!)
Thursdays, 1:00 – 3:00 PM
This group is busy knitting, crocheting and quilting while enjoying Christian fellowship. The group is made up of experienced and novice knitters, crocheters and quilters who would enjoy helping you refresh your skills or learn something new. Please consider joining us for an afternoon of fellowship.
The group regularly donates prayer shawls, lap blankets, baby blankets, hats, scarves, mittens and fingerless gloves to local organizations such as Teen Mothers Choice, a faith based program for teen mothers, Phil’s Friends a support group for cancer patients and Wheeling Township to help those in need in our area. Recently they have started making service quilts for Lutheran World Relief.
The group has also donated prayer shawls, lap blankets and scarves to members of the congregation in times of comfort and need.
